Value Ed, Student Led is a program designed to build elementary schoolers into leaders with strong character. It trains children to incorporate character values into their own daily lives as they teach the values to other students in their school.
Our world needs more leaders of strong character. Character values affect our attitudes and the way we treat other people every day. The earlier these values are learned, the better, as they can change a student's life and the way they interact with their peers.
What makes this program different from others is how it encourages students to lead other students. There are not enough opportunities in our community for elementary school children to gain leadership experience. This program mentors these young leaders in training. After all, the best way to learn something is to teach it. This program provides practice modeling good behavior. Value-focused leading makes students confident in implementing the values in their own daily lives. This program was originally designed for The Evans School, which teaches their "Top 21" values daily. These are Accountability, Attitude, Compassion, Courage, Courtesy, Effort, Gratitude, Honesty, Humility, Initiative, Integrity, Kindness, Loyalty, Patriotism, Perseverance, Respect, Responsibility, Reverence, Sincerity, Sportsmanship, and Unselfishness. On this website are the resources for six activities that were done with the students at The Evans School. Specific objectives for the students involved in each activity include: 1) verbalizing the value and what it means 2) knowing and think about examples 3) modeling the value during the activity 4) visualizing situations where that value is applicable to their daily lives in the future |
